Treatment of Destructive Habits

Self-destructive behaviors are linked to early life experiences that are poorly understood and have far too much influence on your life. Feelings that are not understood and that remain unexpressed can drive a person’s behavior. Inevitably the individual feels out of control.

Addictions come in all shapes and colors but it seems they come in only one size, large. Addictions steal from, coerce, and distort people and their relationships. Addictions are very destructive.

Individuals severely addicted to medications or street drugs are best off being detoxed prior to entering into outpatient treatment at OPG-I. Upon completing a detoxification program individual therapy can begin as well as group therapy. The combination of group therapy and individual therapy is a powerful intervention.

Saying that parenting is a difficult job is an understatement. The tension and stress of maintaining an adult relationship with one’s spouse or significant other while simultaneously being a good parent to your children can be overwhelming. Rather than make the mistake of resorting to inappropriate parental interventions seeking help from others and a therapist may be a much welcome relief.

Frequently, people are puzzled by their pattern of finding a mate who at first seems different but over a short period of time they turn out to be “another wrong choice”. Many people say ‘why do I always choose the wrong person?” Unless there is an intervention where something is learned, the person is destined to go on selecting the wrong mate.
